Brief

DanO
The Time isn't Right

I found DanO through the internet searching under the heading Creative Commons License. This has therefore given me the freedom to download his free track and mix and edit a video as i please so long as i place a message within the video stating DanO's work and contribution for creating the song its self. Otherwise i have permission to do so whatever i wish with the song so long as it follows the rules, which state i must not use it for commercial purposes.

I've chosen to use the track "The Time isn't Right" by DanO. He is considered to be a rock/pop style artist. For the video i want to continue this theme through by committing myself to creating generic shots such as instruments and person focus. I want the video to be a short story that reflects the song through visual-audio connection. I also want to shot inside a dark room with a spotlight on one area showing a man standing with the camera moving around him.

Once the video is created i wish to have it placed on such institutions as MTV 2, where popular rock style music is seen today. Therefore giving me the teenage/young adult (15-25) audience i seek. As i believe that his style of music will settle well with popular culture today.

Textual Analysis

Genre Characteristics.

Here we can see a more traditional rock style shown through the clothing and lighting of the picture. The child himself dresses like that actually performer in the sense of style, were as the trunk is a continuous theme through out that is know to be a rock style as it shows us a bright and extreme shot. Which often is the style used for rock music video's.

What is the relationship between lyrics and visuals?

The road i feel is the connection here as the road is powerful symbol of life and that the sound tells us his path through life so far what he has meet along that path. An example being the women he talks about having met in bar, which all together gives us a connection for both the visual and sound.

What is the relationship between music and visuals?

The beat of the music is a very continuous and medium paced beat which is reflected in the long take shots of music video filled with the contrasting moments of quick flash images of that ever looming truck in the background.

Are there close ups of the artist and star image motifs?

In this actually video we only see a close up of the star for a split few seconds from then on we change into a contrasting star, a child dressed in an adult attire.

Is there reference to the notion of looking?

The whole video i feel gives a notion of looking as it feels that the context of the visual and audio combined give us an image of a wondering soul, that the man/child in the video is possible lost at heart and seeks to re-find himself. This i feel is why the child is present as it shows us the fact that the man at the beginning has become lost and is wondering like a child along the path of life.

Are there intertextual reference's?

The outfit design on the child gives a rather more adult like street outfit which we see today which shows us the fact that maybe the child not as seems and helps to support the thought before a lost man.

Is it performance based, narrative based or concept based, how much of each?

The video is mainly narrative based as it is all based around the words of the artist and the whole video leans to supporting this. In the fact that the visual elements in the video are very simple and to be honest plain, leaving you to looking at the child dancing but mainly to listen to the music.
